Authorship

Authors of the research are those who have made significant intellectual contributions to the research. In this regard, NIELE follows the guidance of attributing authorship by the COPE Authorship Guideline  and the BSA Authorship Guideline

Adopting those guidelines, those listed as authors are:

  • Everyone who made a substantial direct academic contribution to at least two of these four main components: 1) Conception or design, 2) Data collection and processing, 3) Analysis and interpretation of the data, and 4) Writing substantial sections of the paper
  • Everyone who drafted the article or revised it critically for important intellectual content
  • Everyone who approved the final version of the article for publication
  • Everyone who can defend the paper as a whole (although not necessarily all the technical details)

Then, the person who has made the major contribution to the paper and/or taken the lead in writing is entitled to be the first author.

To support transparency, authors need to provide “author contribution statements” that explain how each author contributed to a piece of work. Please follow the CRediT “Contributor Roles Taxonomy” an open standard of 14 item terms that allows for a standardized description of each author’s individual contribution to a manuscript.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
